Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-time mentor Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents his maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of 2023.
Victory also indicates he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.
His counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a third set.
The opponent saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
